The Groundhog's Choice
Poet: Byron Pulsifer
The crowd awaits with bated breath,
A shadow’s glance, or spring’s fresh breath?
The groundhog stirs, its stage is set,
A moment all will not forget.
Will winter hold its frosty grip,
With icy winds that bite and whip?
Or will the warmth of spring appear,
To chase away the cold we fear?
A humble beast, yet tales it spins,
A simple act, the guessing begins.
Shadow or not, we’ll laugh and cheer,
For Groundhog Day, a time of cheer! -
Winter's Whisper, Spring's Song
Poet: Byron Pulsifer
The frost still clings to branches bare,
A biting chill hangs in the air.
Yet whispers rise, a quiet plea,
Of blooming buds and greening tree.
The groundhog stirs, the question clear,
Will winter stay, or spring draw near?
The seasons dance, a fleeting fight,
One holds the cold, one warms the night.
Whatever comes, the heart will sing,
For winter’s end must beckon spring.
A cycle true, a time to grow,
Through shifting winds, the seasons flow.
The Groundhog's Big Day
Poet: Byron Pulsifer
The sun is up, the crowd is near,
I rub my eyes, my moment’s here.
They cheer my name, they call me wise,
But truly, I’m just groundhog size.
Do I see shadow? Do I not?
They pin their hopes on what I’ve got.
A simple glance, a turn, a pause,
And suddenly, I’m nature’s boss!
But deep inside, I just crave rest,
This fame and fuss—am I impressed?
Still, I’ll emerge and play my part,
For Groundhog Day’s a work of art! -
Punxsutawney’s Cheer
Poet: Byron Pulsifer
In Punxsutawney, the crowds arrive,
The air is crisp, the town’s alive.
With hats and scarves, they gather near,
For Groundhog Day, a time of cheer.
The legend old, the tale is spun,
A shadow’s game beneath the sun.
The groundhog rises, the crowd leans in,
To see what fate this day will spin.
With laughter, songs, and joyful cries,
The town lights up beneath the skies.
A playful nod to folklore’s sway,
We celebrate this quirky day! -
The Groundhog’s Wisdom
Poet: Byron Pulsifer
Beneath the earth, a burrow deep,
The groundhog stirs from winter’s sleep.
A quiet creature, small yet wise,
It reads the world through earth and skies.
Through frozen ground and thawing streams,
It marks the shift from snow to dreams.
A herald true of nature’s flow,
It senses what we yearn to know.
For all the fuss, it plays its part,
A gentle guide with steady heart.
In nature’s dance, it stands as one,
A link between the frost and sun. -
Winter's Turning Point
Poet: Byron Pulsifer
The snow lies still, the air is cold,
Yet whispers hint of spring untold.
Groundhog Day, a marker clear,
The turning point of winter’s year.
The days grow longer, light creeps in,
A promise stirs beneath the din.
Though frost remains, the heart takes cheer,
For time moves on, the change draws near.
Seasons turn, as they always do,
From icy gray to skies of blue.
And so, we pause to mark Groundhog day,
As winter slowly fades away. -
The Groundhog’s Lesson
Poet: Byron Pulsifer
The groundhog wakes, its time has come,
A quiet act beneath the sun.
Its gaze, a sign, both small and still,
Yet speaks of hope, of nature’s will.
For life, like seasons, turns with care,
A cycle constant, always there.
We wait, we watch, with patient hearts,
And trust the world will play its part.
The shadow falls, or maybe not,
But wisdom lies within the thought:
That every change, though slow to show,
Will find its time to gently grow. -
The Groundhog’s Peek
Poet: Byron Pulsifer
The groundhog peeks from underground,
To see what weather can be found.
A shadow means more winter’s near,
No shadow? Spring is almost here!
With twitching nose and tiny paws,
It’s nature’s star with loud applause.
But truth be told, it cannot say,
What weather’s really on its way.
Still, Groundhog Day is lots of fun,
For kids and grown-ups, everyone!
So let’s all cheer, come what may,
And celebrate this special day! -
The Groundhog's Guess
Poet: Catherine Pulsifer
The groundhog peeks, what will it be?
A shadow there, or spring we'll see?
He scratches his head, then takes a bow,
"I'm just a rodent, don't ask me how!"
The crowd all laughs, they clap and cheer,
"Six weeks of winter, or spring is near?"
The groundhog shrugs, "It's all just a game,
Blame the forecast, not my name!" -
The Groundhog’s Protest
Poet: Catherine Pulsifer
They cheer my name, they make a fuss,
But weather’s not up to us!
Shadow or not, here’s what I say,
"Can’t I just nap on Groundhog Day?" -
The Groundhog's Dilemma
Poet: Byron Pulsifer
They ask me, "Groundhog, what’s the call?
Will winter stay, or will spring enthrall?"
I scratch my head and look around,
Deciding weather—it’s quite profound!
A shadow here, the crowd goes wild,
No shadow there, they’re just as riled.
Do they not know I’m just a beast?
Predicting storms? That’s quite a feast!
But still, I smile and play my part,
A furry forecaster with a humble heart.
For truth be told, I’ve got no clue—
I just want lunch when this is through! -
Shadow Shenanigans
Poet: Catherine Pulsifer
The crowd gathers round, they cheer and shout,
Will winter stay, or spring come out?
The groundhog smirks, "Let's make it clear,
I can't control the weather, my job’s just cheer!"
He wiggles his nose, his job is done,
The crowd still cheers, "Oh, isn’t this fun?"
Shadow or not, they all still say,
"Let’s celebrate this quirky day!" -
The Groundhog’s Big Dilemma
Poet: Catherine Pulsifer
The cameras flash, the people stare,
The groundhog yawns, "Why do they care?"
"I see my shadow, or maybe I don't,
But predicting spring? Sorry, I won't!"
He scurries back to his cozy den,
Dreaming of peace and quiet again.
But deep inside, he laughs with glee,
"I'll let them wonder - it's fine by me!" -
