Pets in Winter Coats

Poet: Catherine Pulsifer

My dog looks dashing in her hat and coat,
But her wobbly walk gets my biggest vote.
The boots are on, but she won't take a step,
Frozen in place, with one little yelp.

She gives me a look that seems to say,
"Why must I dress like this today?"
Her tail hangs low, her pride feels bruised,
A pup like me shouldn't be this confused!

She wiggles and squirms, then flops to the floor,
Hoping her antics will end this chore.
But I pick her up, her eyes full of plea,
"These clothes are just not meant for me!"

We step outside; her pace is slow,
Each paw lifted high in the crunching snow.
The neighbors laugh, but I must confess,
Her runway strut is a winter success!

By the time we’re home, she prances with pride,
No longer caring how she’s supplied.
A stylish pup with a frosty flair,
Her winter coat’s the talk of the square!
