The Wearin' O' the Green
Today is the day fer the wearin' o' the green.
Today is the day when the little people are seen.
Today is St. Patrick's Day, so if ye'r Irish me lad,
Join the celebratin' fer the grandest time ta' be had.
Ya' put yer hand up in the air, the other hand on your hip.
Ya' tap yer toe, ya' tap yer heel, ya' bounce yer knee a wee bit.
Ya' prance 'n dance around the room, n' circle one two three.
The saints be praised, I must admit, ya' all look Irish ta' me.
A Magical Day Poet: Catherine Pulsifer
A magical day of luck and cheer,
May you have a leprechaun near!
Wear your finest green attire,
As the Irish truly do inspire.
No matter where you may be,
On St. Patty's Day may you see
A shamrock - that four-leaf clover,
May your pot of gold never be over!
An Irish Wish for St. Patricks Day
Poet: Julie Garwood
May you always have
A sunbeam to warm you,
Good luck to charm you,
And a sheltering angel
So nothing can harm you,
Laughter to cheer you,
Faithful friends near you,
And whenever you pray,
Heaven to hear you.
May your joys
Be deep and many,
May your heart
be light and glad,
May you have the best
St. Patrick's Day
That you have ever had.
St. Patrick's Day Is Here
St. Patrick's Day is here, you see.
We'll pick some shamrocks, one, two, three.
We'll count the leaves and look them over,
And maybe find a four-leafed clover.
I'll sew green buttons on my vest,
Green for St. Patrick is the best.
I'll wear a green hat, very high,
And dance a jig - at least I'll try!
St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland fair,
Brought Christianity with loving care.
In the 5th century, his mission begun,
Spreading the faith in the Irish sun.
On March 17th, we honor his name,
With parades and celebrations of acclaim.
Grateful for the blessings he bestowed,
St. Patrick's legacy continues to glow.
Loving Prayer
In the name of dear Saint Patrick
This brings a loving prayer
May you forever be within
God's tender love and care -
May your heart be filled with happiness -
Your home be filled with laughter
And may the Holy Trinity
Bless your life forever after.
It's manny-an manny a year gone by.
From over the wather a hailing.
A sprig of a bye, wid a clear blue sky
I came to this country; a sailing.
My heart bate within wid a rollicking tune,
On my breast was the shamrock adorning.
When I first touched the ground, sure the bands all around
Played St. Patrick's glad day in the morning.
Good luck to the ship that brought me across.
An' here in God's country was landed,
For never a time, without dollar or dime
Have I found myself here empty-handed.
I've a snug little home that shelters us all.
Where no landlord's face is a warning.
An' I hail with delight when day follows night.
St. Patrick's glad day in the morning.
My heart often wanders back to the old sod.
An' the dear ones behind me a leaving -,
But while others above, I should This Land I love
Sure, it's not to go back I'm a grieving.
I love the free air, in this blessed land where.
I can look back on royalty scorning,
An' as the bands play I can welcome the day,
St. Patrick's glad day in the morning.
Blessings To You Poet: Catherine Pulsifer
Blessings come on St. Patrick's Day,
Everywhere you go smile along the way
The Leprechaun and his gold bring good cheer,
To brighten up your smile and wash away any fear.
Luck is yours when you find a four-leaf clover
Where your green until the day is over!
So here's to happy St. Patricks Day to thee,
Wishing you blessings filled with luck and gaiety!
Everyone Is Irish Poet: Catherine Pulsifer
On St. Patrick's Day, everyone is Irish through and through,
Even if they've never touched a Guinness or worn a kilt or two.
From the leprechaun hats to the shamrock pins so bold,
It seems like suddenly everyone has a drop of Irish blood to hold.
Even those who can't find Ireland on the map,
Are decked out in green from toe to cap.
So let's raise a glass and give a cheer,
On St. Paddy's Day, we're all Irish here!
St. Patrick Brings A Promise
Poet: Unknown
It ought to come in April, or, better yet, in May,
when everything is green as green - I mean St. Patrick's Day.
With still a week of winter this wearing of the green
seems rather out of season - it's rushing things, I mean.
But may be March is better when all is done and said:
St. Patrick brings a promise, of springtime just ahead!
The Open Door
Poet: Juliea A. Sullivan
There's a dear old Irish saying
That is murmured o'er and o'er
"When misfortunes close around you,
Shure God leaves an open door."
Oh, the blessed faith of Ireland
That descends through all the years!
Oh, the loving trust and patience,
That can drive away all fears!
For when trials come upon us,
Disappointments sad and sore;
Seek we still with hope and courage,
Seek and find His open door.
Thy eyes like Irish diamonds, shine with a happy light; Thy voice is full of kindness, for those who act aright;
Thy hands are ever doing good, in some act of love, To those who are not bless'd as thee, with gifts from Heaven above.
Four Leaf Clover
Poet: Eloise A. Skimings
How many times, dear,
Have you wander'd o'er the meadow.
To pick the four leaf'd clover.
All for me, all for me.
How many times, dear,
Have you prayed for good luck for me.
And pick'd the four leaf 'd clover.
All for me, all for me,
Can I ever, dear,
Forget your pretty meadow,
Where grows the four leaf'd clover,
All for me, all for me.
